This iconic 6-day, 62.3 km self-guided route takes you deep into the heart of the majestic Tsitsikamma Mountains and its indigenous Afromontane forests. Beginning in the coastal dune forest of Nature’s Valley and ending near the Paul Sauer Bridge/Storms River Village, this trail offers a profound sense of isolation and immersion in one of South Africa’s most breathtaking wilderness areas.

  • Diverse Ecosystems: Traverse ever-changing landscapes, from dry coastal forest and high-altitude fynbos to deep, wet mountain ravines and dense indigenous woodlands.

Is this a slackpacking or full-pack hike?The Tsitsikamma Trail is generally offered as a full-pack trail, meaning you carry your own backpack, gear, and food. Note: There is a porterage/slackpacking option if needed. Contact us for more details.
How fit do I need to be?The hike is rated as moderately difficult. Hikers should have a good level of fitness and be comfortable hiking between 6 – 8 hours per day on varied and sometimes challenging terrain, including steep climbs and river crossings.
What gear is essential?You must bring appropriate waterproof gear, sturdy hiking boots, and sufficient food/water for the day. A detailed packing list will be provided upon booking confirmation.
Is water available on the trail?Yes, water is available at all overnight huts. However, it is raw rainwater and we strongly recommend bringing and using a water filter or purification tablets.
Are the huts equipped?The overnight huts provide basic sleeping accommodation (bunks/beds) and an environmental toilet. They are rustic; you must bring your own sleeping bag and cooking equipment.
